Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs announced that more than $22 million was returned to nearly 19,000 residents in January 2025 through the I-CASH program, the state’s initiative to reunite people with their unclaimed property.
What Is the I-CASH Program?
I-CASH collects forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, unpaid life insurance benefits, and safe deposit box contents from financial institutions and businesses when they remain unclaimed for a while.
The Treasurer’s Office holds these assets by law until the rightful owner or heirs claim them.
