How to Easily Claim Your Unclaimed Property in Arkansas

A recent change in Arkansas law is making it easier for residents to claim their unclaimed property checks.

With the passage of Senate Bill 14, Auditor of State Dennis Milligan now has the ability to automatically send checks to eligible individuals—eliminating the need for a formal claim process.

How the Automatic Payment System Works?

Under the new data match initiative, Arkansas residents may receive their unclaimed funds without having to file a claim. Here’s how it works:

  • Individuals with unclaimed property valued between $50 and $5,000 are identified.

  • The state automatically processes and mails checks to these individuals.

  • The initiative aims to reduce bureaucracy and ensure faster returns of unclaimed funds.

According to Milligan, this initiative will put millions of dollars back into the hands of rightful owners, making the process more efficient and accessible.

The data match initiative is expected to return over $83 million across 360,000 accounts in Arkansas.

Eligible recipients will receive a postal notification before their check is mailed.

Since January 2023, the state has returned over $70 million to Arkansans through the Great Arkansas Treasure Hunt program.
