Thousands of Ohioans have unclaimed money from forgotten bank accounts, rent or utility deposits, uncashed checks, or insurance policies.
The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Unclaimed Funds provides an easy way to search for and claim these funds.
But with a website update coming in late February, access may be temporarily unavailable. Now is the time to check.
How to Search for Unclaimed Funds
Anyone can search the state’s unclaimed funds website by entering their name.
If a match is found, a claim form must be completed and submitted along with supporting documents, either online or by mail.

Documents You Need to Claim Your Funds
- A clear copy of a photo ID
- Proof of address such as a driver’s license, tax return, bank statement, or mortgage deed
- If claiming for a deceased relative, Probate Court documentation from their county of residence is required
No Time Limit, But Don’t Wait
There is no deadline to claim these funds, but with the website going down for maintenance, waiting could delay the process.
Check today to see if you have money waiting. Visit the Ohio Unclaimed Funds website before the system update affects access.
