The West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office made significant strides in December 2024 by returning $1.65 million in unclaimed property to rightful owners. This covered 1,202 claims and included 3,715 individual properties.
State Treasurer Larry Pack, committed to ensuring West Virginians receive what’s theirs, emphasized the importance of reclaiming these funds.
Since the fiscal year began on July 1, 2024, more than $22.2 million has been returned to residents.
Despite this progress, the state’s unclaimed property database still holds over $472.5 million waiting to be claimed.
How to Check for Unclaimed Property
It’s easy to see if you have unclaimed property:
- For West Virginia residents: Visit www.WVUnclaimedProperty.gov and search your name. A step-by-step demonstration video is also available on the Treasury’s YouTube channel.
- For other states: Check www.MissingMoney.com, a national database of unclaimed funds.
Even if you’ve checked before, it’s worth searching again, as new listings are added regularly.
Treasurer Pack is proud to lead the effort to reunite West Virginians with their money.
With new claims processed every day, he encourages residents to check the database frequently.
