Thousands of Louisiana taxpayers are owed money — but time is running out to claim it.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) has alerted nearly 18,000 residents and businesses that they’re owed a combined $16.9 million in state tax refunds.
If those funds aren’t claimed by September 6, 2025, the money will be transferred to the state’s Unclaimed Property program.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
Your refund won’t vanish — but it will be moved to the Louisiana Treasury, where it becomes unclaimed property.
That means extra steps (and delays) to retrieve what’s rightfully yours.
If you could use a little extra help, see what benefits you can claim here.
Who Was Notified?
On July 28, 2025, the LDR sent Unclaimed Property Notices to 17,976 taxpayers, each including:
-
A personalized voucher
-
Instructions for submitting a claim
If you got one, you’re on the list.
How to Claim Your Refund
You have two options:
-
File online via the Louisiana Department of Revenue website
-
Mail back the claim voucher that came with your notice
Refunds will be issued as paper checks after your claim is approved.
Not Sure If You’re Owed Money?
You don’t need a notice to check. Go to the LDR website and search your name to see if there’s money waiting for you.
